"I love that you are providing this material
to DanceSport teachers. It is important for
all teachers to understand how the body
works and then how to help our students
become more proficient movers. Thank
you. "

"I feel that [becoming Move Like a
Champion certified] is critical to my
development as a competitive dancer and
teacher.”

"I still feel inspired from the training
session yesterday. I felt energized and
excited when I left and my body feels great
today. Thank you so much for sharing
these amazing teaching tools with me. I'm
so impressed with the quality of the
material. I can really see how much
thought and work and attention went into
developing it, and I can see why people
who you've presented it to are loving it. I'm
completely inspired to start using the
exercises in my teaching. "

Move Like a Champion™
May, 16, 2011 - Interview with Ian Nandhra, Move Like a Champion
DVIDA® Certified Instructor, Steps to Dance, Sonora, California
Question: How has the Move Like a Champion principles specifically helped
you in your teaching?
Answer: They have revolutionized the way my students understand the way their
bodies work and how that deep understanding makes them better dancers. As an
instructor, I find it makes classes more rewarding and more productive for everybody. I
cannot conceive of a time when I wouldn’t use MLC techniques in a workshop, classes
and every field of dancing.
Question: How have your students responded to the exercises and the “fun”
names of the exercises?
Answer: Initially with surprised interest. After they have gone through the exercise with
their application to practical dancing, they invariably are surprised at the effect that it has
generated, stunned they never thought of it, and delighted that it has made things that
were previously difficult and unattainable, not only attainable but enjoyable.
Question: Which of the 64 exercise is your favorite and why?
Answer: They are all my favorite exercises because they all provide unique solutions
to dancing problems. If I had to choose two, I would choose “Knee on a String” for
Latin, and “Parallelogram” for Standard and Smooth.
Question: Are you glad you decided to get DVIDA® certified in the material?
Answer: I am extremely happy I became DVIDA® certified because:
The exam process focuses your mind on the depth of detail and presentation required
to make each exercise effective for the students
As with all DVIDA® certifications, it reassures student that the instructor in which they
are placing their hopes, dreams, trust and money actually knows what they are doing.
While I studied and took the exam to increase my own personal knowledge and
improvement, I did it for my students and to improve the quality in the dance industry.
Question: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Answer: There is no doubt in my mind that in decades to come, dancers the world over
will still be referring to this book, its exercises and techniques, and all of the derivative
work that will undoubtedly come from this ground breaking material.
"I had the greatest experence with the Move Like a Champion sholder blade speading
activity. We were having our little kids camp where my students teach Elementary age
kids. I was working in the hallway with one of my High School kids and a parent was
sitting there watching. I did the thing where you do the pushing on the sholder blades
apart then lock down the sholder. The further I pulled on the students sholder blades
the bigger the Mom's eyes got. She was so impressed! She then later at the lunch
break had me do it again showing the other kids what I had done and I got the same
reaction. Then all of the kids wanted me to do it to them. It was so much fun. Thanks
Diane!!!"

"I have used the get 2 inches taller and another exercise that I don't remember the
name of where we bite our knuckle to get our head to get back above our shoulders
in alignment. It was very helpful with both students and the one student told me
yesterday that she has been doing the knuckle biter regularly. I actually noted a
difference with her head alignment so it is working well!"
